WHAT I’M WEARING
When I think of Christmas nights out, I think of the nights spent with my best friends in Edinburgh in the shortest of dresses and highest of heels with no coats and trekking though inches of snow to make it back to our flat. Fast forward a few years and my idea of a Christmas night out is more of a Christmas night in – hot chocolate, mince pies with a dollop of extra thick cream, the cosiest of pjs with a pooch curled up on my lap.
Now I’ve left uni my social life is much quieter in terms of ‘nights out.’ I’m not a big drinker anymore, my body doesn’t cope well with it so an occasional wine is more my jam now, which I’m ok with. I appreciate my bed more than ever and LOVE not waking up with a banging headache.
But when the occasion arises, albeit very rare, for a night out, I don’t have the go-to ‘going out’ wardrobe I used to. Don’t get me wrong I love a sparkle as much as next person, Topshop nail the party wear looks from embellished jackets to sequin mini’s but as I really go out verrrry rarely, I don’t have the need to stock up on them and I now prefer pieces that I can take from day to night and get my wear out of rather than pricey pieces I’ll only wear once.
So instead of having a specific going out look, I try to make the most of the pieces already in my wardrobe whilst making them feel more night-out appropriate. This satin-feel skirt from New Look is the perfect piece for that and the colour is very festive! Perfect for everyday with chunky boots and a knit but just as easily dressed up for Christmas drinks or dinner. A patent boot and the snuggliest of faux fur coats keeps it looking sassy with plenty of room to conceal a wine and food baby, I mean tis the season!
